9 March 2018

Watching TV tonight, it's a tough choice.  Do I want to watch Norske Rednecks Camping or Snooker or the medical program that is showing a group of good looking firefighters how to check their testicles.  Seriously, they all stripped down and let it all hang out.  One of them was the demonstration guy.  I obviously watched this for awhile :)  I kept waiting for them to look embarrassed! Nope, just got down to business.

I took advantage of the pretty day with a trip to Nordkapp.  The convoy left at noon and it took around 15 minutes to reach the site.  The road was in better shape than the road to Honningsvåg, so I'm thinking I need a convoy when I go to town.  Actually, there are gates that close when the weather is bad and you are forced to wait to convoy behind a snow plow.

Nordkapp

A beautiful view, at the top.

The chapel was incredible.

The drive back down the mountain.

A frustrating launch window, tonight.  A camera is giving me problems and I spent a lot of time troubleshooting.  Since we didn't launch tonight, I'll spend tomorrow trying to figure out what the problem is.

  1. Hi Patti.. nice blog. and interesting field of work. I came over an article in the news regarding the rocket launch and immediately got fired up (pun intended) about trying to capture this in camera...

Beeing a hobby photographer, living in the arctic (Bardufoss) I often bring the camera out for some night time photograpy of the aurora... Reading about this rocket filled with chemicals who will light up the night sky is like a once in a liftime deal for a hobbyist like myself :) So I set my mind to make it (if I can tho).. I was outside today (friday) for a couple of hours until the plane returned to tromsø. I also talked with someone at Andøya Space senter about giving us a heads-up (us beeing a local photography club) when they push the button, but they were not very helpful. I just thought that having alot of pictures from many people would be a good thing :) That beeing said, a friend of mine gave me a tip about your blog.. and from what I can see, you are by the looks of it, involved in taking pictures of this as well :) and by involved, I mean like on the ground floor of the operation :)

SO my question(s) to you are as follow (if I may :))
    1. Do you have enough inside info, and authority to give a heads-up to a photography club with eager arora photographers who wants to capture this fireworks? :)
If yes, you may email me @ mallaug@gmail.com :)
If No.. I understand, and will continue to look upwards at random in hope to capture something.. :)

    2. technical question 1.. I scrolled through your blog and found a picture from November 24, 2014. of what I just can guess is the same as what is going up theese days.. the question beeing, at what focal length is that taken? I was pondering about the distance to the rockets from the vantage point. I just figure the area of interest are pretty small so maby a good zoom-lens is prefered? or a wide angle?. I dont even know if the event is even viewable from my home town of Bardufoss (N69°)

    3. technical question 2 (camera nerd edition) What kind of cameras do you use in your boxes and with what kind of lenses (focal lenghts) I guess they have different focal lenghts?

If you are too busy to answer, I get it and no harm done.. But I HAD to ask, cause it never hurts to ;)

have a Nice day. regards, Rolv Mallaug
