7 March 2018

Last night was the first clear night.  Unfortunately, we didn't have the magnetic activity we need.

There were three people from England at the restaurant last night.  They had spent a couple nights in Tromsø, looking for aurora.  They then came here to give it a try.  We stood outside talking and looking at the sky.  I pointed out a faint haze across the sky and told them that it was aurora.  Marita strongly objected, indicating it wasn't bright enough to justify being called aurora.  The visitors, though,  were THRILLED.  They could check it off their bucket list!  I convinced them to wait a little bit, since it would probably get brighter.  Sure enough, it soon spread across the sky and you could see some movement.  Needless to say, it made their whole trip :)

Today, I moved my camera setup around to the other side of the school.  The streetlights reflecting off the snow made it extremely difficult to see through the viewfinder.  I'm getting really good at setting up a camera site, unfortunately.

Hard to believe that I was approached by a Jehovah's witness in Gjesvær :(  What are the odds.

It's common for the kids from here to move to Honningsvåg when they are 15 or 16.  They get their own apartment and have to grow up pretty quickly.  The reason is school.  The road is closed pretty frequently in the winter and they would miss too much school due to that.

Another clear but cold night here.  Again, not enough magnetic activity.  Maybe tomorrow!!
